Dr. Lynn Zender, Executive Director of Zender Environmental Health, received her Civil and Environmental Engineering Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis, and also holds an M.S. in Environmental Systems Modeling from Humboldt State University, with a Minor in Economics and Alternative Treatment Systems. Dr. Zender has worked with tribes and rural communities since 1994, and is recognized as an expert in Arctic small community solid waste practices and health risks. Her passion is working with small community and tribal programs to attain equitable facilities and practices. While these programs face far greater challenges than their larger counterparts, they also possess unique capacity to address them. Dr. Zender has built her experience from visiting Environmental Program staff in over sixty offroad communities, which is a part of her work she especially appreciates. She also works with the National Tribal Toxics Council in their work to reduce contaminant exposure risk for indigenous population lifeways, is a member of the Environmental Justice Advisory Council, and a member of the Solid Waste Alaska Taskforce Executive Committee.
